Thanks for stopping by! I’m Amelia Lester, the executive editor of Foreign Policy magazine in Washington, DC.

Outside of my day job I occasionally write features. I’ve written about the secrets of Uniqlo’s success for The Economist’s 1843 Magazine and the history of avocado toast for NewYorker.com. Jacinda Ardern allowed me to trail her through Auckland for US Vogue and Takashi Murakami invited me into his Tokyo studio for Good Weekend. I’ve profiled crime writer Jane Harper for The New York Times, blogger Claire Lehmann for Politico Magazine, and Flamingo Estate’s Richard Christiansen for Good Weekend.

Travel + Leisure once sent me to a wellness retreat in Koh Samui, which was as perfect as it sounds. I’ve covered Kyoto for T: The New York Times Style Magazine, Disneyland for Qantas, and Okinawa for Departures.

There are a couple of pieces of which I’m most proud. The first was a look at how Generation Z has been politicized by necessity for Good Weekend. Another, for The Cut, was how to get six hours sleep as a new parent, even while breastfeeding. And then there’s the aggrieved column I wrote for my college newspaper about Facebook. Mine is apparently the “second-ever article” about the social media platform, and yes, I did ask Mark Zuckerberg for comment—though not, sadly, for stock options.
